Vail Day 1

Saturday June 28, 2008

10:00am

Greetings from Vail, CO,

So, the first day of Vail is complete. It was a long day of travelling.  We all arrived at the airport at 6, many of us still half asleep but we were all pretty excited when we saw CHRIS BOSH (Toronto Raptors forward) at the airport. We boarded the plane and 3 and a half hours later after a quite turbulent flight we arrived in Denver which didn't quite look like we all expected it would. We couldn't see any mountains when we left the airport. A man at the airport said that the smoke from the California wildfires was making it too hazy to see any mountains. But, once we loaded up the vans and started driving towards Vail, the mountains were in sight. The Interstate highway drove right through the mountains (see the photo gallery for pictures). The view was amazing but the drive was a little scary with mountains on each side and very steep climbs and hills. We arrived at the condos after a 2 hour drive from Denver (I believe an e-mail was sent out about checking out our accomodations). After a long day of travel, most of us were pretty exhausted and ready to get to bed early. So now, we are on Day 2 and about to have a team practice at the tournament fields. After that, we are heading out to white water rafting, which we are all pretty excited about. We will be back on later tonight hopefully to post some more pictures. -Emily U.

Day 2 - Saturday, June 28th

What an amazing day in Colorado! We started the day with a practice in Edwards, about 10 minutes outside of Vail. We shared the field with a team from California. It was so beautiful practicing with the mountains surrounding us.

Whitewater rafting was so fun!!!! We travelled 10 miles down the Eagle River. Take a look at the pictures in the photo gallery. Thanks so much to Sarah and Cathy Tanaka who followed us down the river and took the pictures of us!

We start the tournament tomorrow at 8am. Our first game is against a team from Maryland who is ranked #1. In the afternoon, we are playing exhibition games against teams from Colorado and Utah.

There are many pictures in the photo gallery. We realize that some are duplicated but make sure you go right to the end. You wouldn't want to miss any Blue Knights action!

Day 3 - Sunday, June 29th

Another beautiful day in Vail.  We started really early - our first game was at 8am against the number 1 ranked team.  It was a tough game with the final score being 15 - 6  (we lost).

For those of you who know how much Jess likes her chair at the field, take a look at the picture on the blog and see her new one.

After our game, we went into Vail and spent time exploring the village.  At 3pm, we had an exhibition game against a team from Colorado and we lost 12-11.  It was a great game and everyone seemed much happier!!

Tonight was Fiesta Night.  The team is divided into 2 groups for event planning.  Group 1 planned our activities tonight.  We had tacos for dinner and a pinata for the activity.  See the pictures on the blog!

Happy Birthday Marsha!  Corina made a great pie for her.  Take a look at the picture on the blog and see how it looked on her face.

Tomorrow we will be playing games at 8am and 1pm.  There is a BBQ for all of the teams at dinnertime.

Hope you are enjoying our pictures!   BLUE KNIGHTS DO IT RIGHT!!!!

Day 4 - Monday, June 30

The Lady Blue Knights made everyone proud today.  They went out and played 2 amazing games.  We won the first game against Eagle Elite by a score of 16-3.  The second game was against Triple Threat from California and  we came out victorious with a score of 16-1.

Late in the afternoon, we went up the Gondola in Vail.  There were certainly some "Kodak moments" ... many pictures were taken!!!  New pictures have been added to the picture gallery.

The day finished with a BBQ in Vail.

We are in the "Silver" division of the tournament.  The first game for us is at 10:30am and then at 1pm.  The girls are looking forward to singing "O Canada" on the fields to celebrate Canada Day.  A team from Minnesota say that they are going to join them.

We are looking forward to Group 2's dinner and activities  that are planned for us tomorrow night.

Happy Canada Day! (this was written at 1:15am Ontario time!)

As a Lady Blue Knight, what do you believe is most important?
